STC ALL IN

Welcome to the STC ALL IN program! Casting is excited to introduce a new access point for actors looking to collaborate with STC. The STC ALL IN portal is a new way to submit yourself for consideration for future programming at STC. While we will continue our established forms of outreach, we wanted to offer another avenue for the acting community to express interest in working with us. By filling out the form below, actors enter themselves into a growing performer database. Through self-submission, actors help us to cast a wider net during the audition process for our upcoming productions, allowing us to include more voices in our sessions...

24/25 Season Casting Apprentice

We are excited to announce that applications for the first ever STC Casting Apprentice are open through September 6. We are seeking a motivated, smart, artistically curious DC-area college student to join Team Casting to gain hands-on experience, observe, and assist with the everyday operations of the department.

During this season-long commitment (September–May), the Casting Apprentice will also take part in one-on-one training sessions with Resident Casting Director, Danica Rodriguez, on all aspects of the casting process, what it means to work in the Artistic department of a major regional theater, and what it’s like to emerge as a theatre artist in an ever-changing arts ecology.

ÁLZATE

Free Bilingual Shakespeare & Audition Workshop
Saturday, September 21
12-3pm | Harman Hall

ÁLZATE is a FREE 3-hour acting intensive giving college students and recent graduates the tools they need to take on bilingual classical texts (Spanish & English) and the how-tos on auditioning for professional theatre. In celebration of Latine Heritage Month, this session will be held on Saturday, September 21.

The first half of the session will be an exploration of ROMEO Y JULIETA, Saheem Ali and Ricardo Pérez González's adaptation of the Shakespeare classic. Alina Collins Maldonado (Actor, Director, Educator and Multi-Disciplinary Artist) and Danica Rodriguez (STC Resident Casting Director) will lead participants through a series of scenes where we'll discuss techniques for taking on classical texts. We'll explore how the inclusion of Spanish translations expands the cannon and amplifies the text.

The second half of the session will be an audition monologue workshop. Participants will bring in a short piece to perform for a panel of casting directors and theatre artists from across the DMV, have the opportunity to get feedback from industry professionals, and get tips on best practices for auditions.

Students and recent graduates who sign up for ÁLZATE using the form below will be selected to join on a first come, first serve basis. Those selected to attend will receive a confirmation email the week of September 1.

Danica Rodriguez (she/her) is a Washington D.C/New York based casting director & theatermaker dedicated to celebrating the voices of the historically underrepresented. She began her casting career working for Marc Hirschfeld Casting, Warner Brothers Television Casting NY, and The Public Theater in New York before moving to Washington, D.C., to join Shakespeare Theatre Company in her current position as Resident Casting Director. In her tenure as a casting professional, Danica has worked on dozens of mainstage productions and workshops/developments in New York and D.C. Danica’s core values of generosity, advocacy, and equity led her to her role as founding trainer and educator for Broadway for Racial Justice’s Casting Directive, as well as projects connected to Netflix, LALIFF, The Civilians, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Co, The Folger Shakespeare Library and The Kennedy Center. She was named a 2021 TCG Rising Leader of Color and has sat on selection committees for INTAR Theatre and the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. As a passionate believer in arts education and accessibility, Danica has also had the privilege of speaking at Roundabout Theatre Company, Shenandoah University, the Academy of Classical Acting at George Washington University, American University and more. Danica holds a Bachelor of Arts with distinction in Film & Media Studies from Dartmouth College.
